Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES) is preferably pronounced as ‘Be Yes'
Shamimul Islam is the Founder and President of Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES). He did his undergrad and Masters from International Relations of University of Dhaka. His Leadership training from United States under The Study of the United State Student (SUSI) Leadership Program (2008) has much impact on him to equip his learning and to give a pace at his dream to make a difference in the society through youth empowerment.
Following his passion, he founded Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES) bringing a group of creative and visionary young friends who shared the similar vision. He envisions bringing a change in society through youth empowerment, leadership development and social entrepreneurship. He has participated in South Asian Youth Camp 2010 in Pune, India, as well as in International Graduate Conference on Climate Change and People 2010 in Nepal organized by University of Colorado, USA. He has organized several social events along with a year-long project on ‘Knowledge for Change’ as a Project Co-Director sponsored by US State Department and US Embassy Dhaka. He has written several articles and talked as a speaker and representative of Bangladesh in several international conferences. He aspires to lead a knowledge based young generation inspired to make a peaceful and economically thrived Bangladesh.
Nabila Hossain, Vice President of BYES, is also working as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Because she believes in multitasking, all her life, beside working and studying she always actively participated in extracurricular and voluntary activities. Apart form enjoying academic scholarship during her undergraduate studies at AIUB, in her convocation from AIUB, she was awarded Academic distinction “Summa Cum Laude” (the gold medal) along with “Chairman’s Award” (the leadership Award). She participated in many competitions of Bengali/English debate and public speaking throughout her student life. Being an undergrad student she participated in Study of U.S. Institute for Student Leaders (SUSI), 2008, sponsored by the U. S. State department, as one of the 12 selected students from Bangladesh and 130 students from all over the world. She participated in programs including- campaign on “Make Bangladesh Polio Free”, relief distribution among flood victims, blood-grouping programs under Interact Club of Dhaka South. She was the first female to be a Chairperson of an Interact District Conference of Bangladesh. She believes that her extracurricular activities have taught her how to work as and in a team of people from different parts of the world and also has improved her leadership quality.
Md. Muhibbur Rahman is working as a Program Director at BYES. He has worked as Research Analyst at Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (2010-2011). He graduated (BSS AND MSS) from the University of Dhaka, majoring in International Relations and was presented with Academic Award, by the Department of IR, University of Dhaka for holding ‘First Position’ in both BSS and MSS. Having granted Near East and South Asian Undergraduate Exchange (NESA UGRAD) Fellowship (2009-2010) of US Department of State, the Government of the USA, he studied as an exchange student in Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He was selected as Student Ambassador and granted Dean’s List Award in Clarion University of PA. He studied Peace Research at International Summer School of the University of Oslo. He participated in many international conferences including Midwest Economics Association Conference, March 2010 in Chicago, USA; North American Model United Nations (NAMUN) Conference, February, 2010, University of Toronto; Toronto, Canada; I7th HPAIR Academic Conference, August 2008, Harvard University and University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His major affiliations include Political Economy Club (Clarion University), International Student Association (Clarion University), HPAIR Dhaka University Club (HPAIRDUC), IREDC (International Relations English Debating Club) and UNYSAB.
Md. Robayt Khondoker is working as Program Director at BYES. He graduated (BSS and MSS) from the University of Dhaka, majoring in International Relations and achieved first position in MSS. During his academic life, he participated in numerous seminars, conferences and debate programs as a youth leader and debater both in national and international sphere. He participated at ‘South Asian Youth Camp’ in India and ‘International Graduate Conference on Climate Change and People’ in Nepal. He visited Pakistan’s various universities as an exchange student of ‘Bangladesh-Pakistan University Exchange Program’. He regularly writes for The Daily Star in Strategic Issues. His area of interests includes Human Security and Youth Empowerment. His first professional post was to work as a Research Assistant locally in Bangladesh at Asian Institute for Human Rights (AIHR), Thailand. He also worked with the United Nations World Food Program as a Program Assistant for a short period of time. He continues to progress his passion for human security and youth empowerment and his eager for getting the job well done.
Shoharab Hossain Sobuj graduated from Northern University Bangladesh under Department of Law and Human Rights . He got a strong entrepreneurial mind from his early stage of undergraduate Course at University. Through his leadership quality he led well his Moot Court Club and Northern University Debating Club as a part of his extra Curricular Activities. He was also General Secretary of Rotary Club of Arong City Dhaka. He participated in different programs at American Center and other national trainings. He had training under Winrock International and US AID on International Human Rights and Human Trafficking. He played strong role in the beginning part of Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES). He envisions contributing to the society as a public Servant through creating Social Enterprises which will play important role to create jobs for Youth Employment making a difference in the Society.
Md. Asif Iqbal works as Coordinator of Administrative Support Department at BYES. His passion is working for youth development and social engagement activities. He is an Engineer, graduated from Computer Science and Engineering, Daffodil International University. He developed several projects, among those Interactive Peer Teaching Video Portal (www.alokito.com) is recommendable. He was involved in extra curricular activities in his College and University life. He worked in Daffodil International University Computer & Programing Club (DIUCPC). He also worked at South Asian Youth Society as an organizer (2009-2010). He participated in different programs and seminars arranged at national level. He dreams to develop technologies and soft wares that help to decrease abuses of children and youth through Internet and E-devices.
Md. Ashiqur Rab works as Program Officer of Youth in Social Entrepreneurship Development Program at BYES (BYES-YSEDP). He loves to think social and work social. His passion is working with young and under privileged community. He graduated from the University of Dhaka, in BBA, major in Marketing and currently getting MBA there. His several articles on Social Entrepreneurship & Social Marketing were published by Daily Financial Express. He is co-founder at www.futurestartup.com, countries’ first entrepreneurship blog. He worked as Training Facilitator at a program of Chars Livelihood Program (CLP) of DFID (2012). He also worked with Grameen Communications at the project Social Services on Wheels as Business Entrepreneurship Trainer (2012). He is Bronze (2009) & Silver (2010) level Award Winner of Duke of Edinburg International Award, United Kingdom. Moreover, He worked as General Secretary of Zia Hall Debating Club, University of Dhaka (2011-12). He also worked as Organizer at South Asian Youth Society (2009-10). He dreams to work on building youth as human capital and to create employment & income generation opportunity for the people of Bangladesh.
Zahirul Islam Musa is Media Relations Coordinator at BYES. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dhaka University and currently doing his Master of laws at same university. He worked with daily Jai-jaidin as Sub-editor and served as Section Editor of Law and Justice, a weekly feature page. Previously he worked also as Law and Human Rights reporter of weekly Chintaa. Musa got a good hand on writings. On local and international law, judiciary, human rights and other legal issues, he writes regularly. Musa represented Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall Debating Club in different competitions. He participated in youth leadership programs and conferences in Nepal and India. He has keen interest in legal research and acted as Coordinator of House of Legal Analysis, a legal research center regarding law and human rights of the law students of Dhaka University. Musa discovered himself having travelling blood and planned to travel whole world, he is about to reach every single district of Bangladesh. His interests are in youth activism, policy making, law and life, human rights, and administration of justice. He aims to become a dominant law professional in Bangladesh.
Ansar Uddin Md. Anas works as Program Associate at BYES. He graduated from Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka. He worked as Project Coordinator in Relief International funded project “Transparency for Human Rights in Bangladesh” under CYDI. He attended several youth summits and conferences in International arena. He has deep interests in youth activism and he is intensely connected with the chain of youth engagement throughout Bangladesh. Anas has a deep interest in South Asian Politics and Role of Media in International Relations. He is strongly involved with South Asian Youth Network who believes in a pluralist South Asia. He also studied on Media and Democracy at Center for Politics, University of Virginia, USA in 2010 under SUSI program. He is a regular contributor in Daily Ittefaq Editorial on the issue of Politics, Security and Diplomacy. Anas believes in his generation’s courage and commitment who are working with the aim of changing the country with all loves, passions and dedications.
Shehreen Ataur Khan is studying in Fourth Year at Department of English, University of Dhaka. She passed H.S.C. (2007) and S.S.C. (2005) from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College. She was one of the five Exchange Students selected from Bangladesh for the Study of United States Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders-2011 sponsored by the State Government hosted by University of Oklahoma. Her study at Oklahoma was focused on New-Media. She has also completed an On-line course with San-Jose University of California on “Women & Technology”. Besides, in 2011, she secured the second position in an International Essay Competition organized by Opptunity.com. She worked as the Media Representative for different voluntary organizations. Besides these, she also worked as a Blind Reader for the Community Action (CA). Currently she is affiliated to English Department Drama Club, English Department Film Club, English Department Literary Club and Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS). She aspires to continue her social engagement to excel in the academic field of development.
Meher Nigar Jerin is working as Program Associate (YELDP) at Management Team in Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES). She is currently studying at Department of English in University of Dhaka. She is also the Convener of English Department Volunteers’ Association, at University of Dhaka. With her academic accomplishment she concentrates on work that benefits local community by working in different non-profit youth organizations since 2010 and received a broader perspective on leadership. She has worked in two U.S State Department funded projects. She is an Awardee of “Duke of Edinburgh Award” Bronze, 2011. She represented Bangladesh in South Asian Youth Conference 2011, Bangalore, India. Besides promoting youth activism, she got training on “Women in Technology” organized by the faculty of Women’s Study and Educational Instructional Technology of Evergreen Valley College of San Jose, CA, USA, in collaboration with faculty in University of Dhaka, and “Disaster Management and Environmental Safety” organized by DUES, DU. Socio- cultural issues, social and gender discrimination, visual art and ensuring education for all are some selected work areas which she prefers most.
Kawser Jahan Nazma is working as Program Associate at BYES. Currently, she is studying at Department of Development Studies in University of Dhaka. Kawser attended in different Programs organized by UN Women, American Center. At University Campus, she has been actively participating in Debate and Public Speaking sessions. She regularly participated in English Debating sessions at Fajilatunnessa Hall Debating Club of Dhaka University. Through her intense interests in extracurricular activities, she volunteered at the several events of CommunityAction (CA) and BYES. She worked as an organizer at ‘Knowledge for Change’ a project sponsored by US State Department. She has got keen interests to contribute for the Society as a public servant. Kawser loves talking to people on social issues and has got strong feelings for the gender equality and women’s participation in different spheres. She believes in active citizenship and respects the social responsibilities. Besides assisting projects and programs, she is much interested on researching on the Prospects of Youth Engagement in Bangladesh. She believes in effective leadership skills to be learnt and to be shared for every public servant.
Md. Noman Taher is working as Social Event Coordinator at Bangladesh Youth Empowerment Society (BYES). He is a 4th year student of Dept. of Public Administration at Jahangirnagar University. He is a debate enthusiasts and worked at Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization (JUDO) as treasurer and was Joint-Secretary at Mir Mosarraf Hossain Hall Debating Society (MHDS). He is founding Organizing Secretary at Public Administration Debating Club (PADC), JU and Co-founder at Debate for Peace, a national debating organization. Besides his organizing activity, he was the Champion and the Best Speaker among the participants of 30 debating clubs in Jahangirnagar University (2010). He also achieved the Best Speaker Award at Public Speaking Competition among JU debaters (2010). He is also a cultural activist. Moreover, Noman participated in different conferences and seminars organized at National and International premises on debate, leadership, community development, peace. He successfully represented Bangladesh at International Youth Peace Fest-2011 in Chandigarh, India. He aspires to work for youth leadership development from academic perspectives.
